HOW DO I JOIN THE CSCA? There is a two part process to joining the CSCA through our website. Please go to the application page for more information. Anyone interested in the objectives of the Affiliation may have a part in the CSCA. Full, voting membership is open to all persons with at least a bachelor's degree in science who can give assent to our statement of faith. Science is interpreted broadly to include anthropology, archeology, economics, engineering, history, mathematics, medicine, psychology, and sociology as well as the generally recognized science disciplines. Philosophers and theologians who are interested in science are very welcome. Some members with continued distinguished participation in the CSCA are elected to the membership category of Fellow; they pay a higher fee. We have also introduced a new category of Patron for those who would like to show extra support for the ministry of the CSCA. Associate membership is available to interested nonscientists who can give assent to our statement of faith. Associates receive all member benefits and publications and take part in all the affairs of the CSCA except voting and holding office. Full-time students may join as Student Members (science majors) with voting privileges or as Student Associates (non-science majors) with no voting privileges. Retired individuals qualify for a reduced rate. Full-time overseas missionaries are entitled to complimentary Associate membership in the CSCA. An individual wishing to participate in the CSCA without joining as a member or giving assent to our statement of faith, may become a Friend of the CSCA. Friends receive all member benefits and publications and take part in all the affairs of the CSCA except voting and holding office. WHAT DO I RECEIVE AS A RESULT OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE CSCA? Publications The CSCA shares resources with the American Scientific Affiliation. As a member, you receive the quarterly journal of the ASA/CSCA, Perspectives on Science & Christian Faith, and a bimonthly Newsletter. The journal has become an outstanding forum for discussion of key issues at the interface of science and Christian thought. It also contains news of current trends in science and reviews of important books on science/faith issues. The Newsletter brings you news of the scientific work and Christian witness of ASA/CSCA members, reports of activities, and other items of current interest. It also carries notices of ASA/CSCA members seeking employment and of positions open to Christians trained in science. Books ASA/CSCA titles such as Teaching Science in a Climate of Controversy and the Membership Directory are sent to all new members when available. Other books and resources are sometimes available for purchase through the home office. We now offer the books, God Did It, But How? by Robert B. Fischer (this book suggests that we separate Who? and Why? from What? and How?) and Being a Christian in Science by Walter R. Hearn that looks at what scientists do and addresses the hard questions Christians face about divided loyalties, personal conflicts, and possible loneliness. We also offer the leaflet, God and the Big Bang by Michael Poole that covers a wide range of key topics in a smoothly flowing style. Fellowship The spiritual and intellectual stimulation of ASA/CSCA meetings is a distinctive feature of the CSCA membership, highly valued by those who participate. Members keep in contact with each other through the Newsletter, E-mail, ASA/CSCA list server and at ASA/CSCA get-togethers at national and international scientific meetings. Opportunities for Service The CSCA sponsors and encourages individual and group efforts to serve both the Christian and scientific communities. Major efforts are made to clear up misunderstandings of one group by the other, but speaking and writing are not the only forms of CSCA ministry. We seek opportunities to witness as a body of people with a grasp of biblical truth wherever that witness is needed.
